The following article is based on a recent posting and applies to ALL site owners. It is another great example showing us the true value of unique fresh content and why, as always we should keep things in perspective. Enjoy!

What To Do If You're Dropped By the Search Engines

Being dropped from Google, Yahoo! or MSN can be a real traumatic experience, especially if a large portion of your traffic is coming from that Search Engine. This has happened to me and the first thing to remember is that this happens to almost everybody so...

Take a deep breath and don't panic.

The Search Engines have been changing their algorithms and have been dropping Web sites from their results since the Internet began. It's no different now.

Each time the music stops and the "dance" is over, any quality site will always return to the results pages. When an engine adjusts its ranking algorithms, a small percentage of sites see an improved ranking, another small percentage drop (or even get dropped!), and the majority remain about the same

. The key is to keep a balanced perspective

Because no algorithm is perfect, all sites can be adversely affected in the short term. However, it is true to say that overall, in the long run, SBI! sites do better and better because in reality, the search engines really are getting "smarter".Well constructed websites with fresh unique content and highly relevant incoming links will always score higher.

So...

Stay the course. Always remember that the search engines WANT quality, relevant sites. If they drop good sites, their results ultimately suffer. Just keep building great content

Stay positive. Understand that a well-built site that OVER delivers solid content will re-find its own level at the engines and keep on growing. The reason is inescapable...

The Search Engines depend on YOU (i.e., great CONTENT sites) to provide the editorial search results that attract searchers. If they don't do that well, their business will suffer because their search quality will fall behind others. When that happens, searchers will go to other engines. And THAT means less advertising income.

Remember, too, that your site's ranking momentum does not build in a straight line. There will be fluctuations and setbacks along the way. These are normal occurrences. We all get them, so expect them.

So, what do you do?

Maintain a balanced, steady, positive attitude.

Create more quality content. Keep creating more content pages. When the SE algorithm sorts itself out and re-spiders your site, there will be even more pages there to index and display on the results pages.

The more great content, the bigger your presence. The more you OVER deliver, the better humans respond. The engines notice continued site growth, more inbound links and other off-page criteria, etc.

Keep creating more great content!

Carefully examine your existing pages to rule out possible violations of the SE's quality guidelines. If you are at all unsure of these guidelines, check them out at the search engines.

Find more in-pointing links. Google bases part of its ranking scores on the number of links directed at your site from related quality sites. If you were ranking well before an algorithm change, securing more links in (along with the addition of quality content) may be what tips the scales in your favor.

So, to summarize...

Any search engine may temporarily drop your listings, and it could be for a million reasons, most of them innocent accidents, as the new algorithm sorts its database.

Breathe deeply. Patiently create more content. Get more in-pointing links. Keep growing your site. The good engines will pick you back up and deliver more traffic again. They have to do so if they want to stay competitive.

Focus on building, building your website and your business. Do this and you will achieve the best results.
